Breathing for Singers (Part 2)

Looking for some new warm-ups to add to your routine?

Look no further.

breathing to effectively support your singing voice

Throughout Part 1 of this video, you learned all of the mechanics of breathing to sing in a simple and interactive way. Part 2 consists entirely of three guided exercises so you can add to your daily routine.

Exercise 1

Breathe in through your mouth and exhale on a “hiss”. The goal while doing this warm-up is to slow the relaxation of the diaphragm during your exhale.

Exercise 2

Building off of the first exercise, now breathe in and exhale on a lip trill. If you have trouble with lip trills, feel free to substitute with a continuous rolled “r” on pitch.

Exercise 3

In our final exercise, we will be adding pitch. Inhale as you did previously, but this time exhale on a “siren” sound. To make this sound, use the lip trill that you were previously creating, but add continuous descending pitch.
